Finalists compete for Western Australia’s top art prize

A field of 57 artworks by 60 of Western Australia’s finest artists has been shortlisted for the Perth Royal Art Prize for Landscape, with a prize pool of $24,500. The prestigious competition highlights the exceptional talent within the state, with a selection of artists from 50 different areas across WA, from Broome to Bicton, shortlisted for the 2024 accolades.

The prize, established by the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RASWA) in 1974, has grown in prominence and serves as a significant platform for both emerging and established artists. The first prize is a substantial $20,000 and remains non-acquisitive, providing the winning artist the opportunity to sell their work at the exhibition.

“We are thrilled to witness such a remarkable array of high-calibre artwork this year,” said RASWA Chief Executive Officer Robyn Sermon. “The diversity of perspectives presented through this competition enriches our cultural tapestry and offers a fabulous reflection of our state’s artistic talent.”

The 2024 Perth Royal Art Prize offers four distinct awards: First Prize of $20,000, the Emerging Artist Award, and two Highly Commended awards.

All artworks will be available for public viewing and purchase at the Wilkinson Gallery at Claremont Showgrounds from Saturday, July 13, to Sunday, July 21, with free daily admission and ample parking. The winners will be announced at a special event on Friday, July 12.
