The Western Trend Festival is a new start-up event for Perth live original music. Given the recent discussion re venues how important do you think this event could be?
Having an event rather then just a gig will hopefully attract new people who don’t usually listen to local live bands down and introduce them to the wonderful world of live music.
Have you as a band had much in the way of outdoor/festival experiences?
Our first show was for the North Freo Pub Crawl, another local bands festival which was great but that’s been our only one.
Describe the evolution of your band, how it was at the start and what it is and is becoming…
The Filthy Apes started many Millennia ago, time travelling to the present to make music that hopefully helps raise your level of consciousness. We’ve recorded a bunch of releases over the last year-and-a-half; I think the music has progressively been getting more melodic but weirder as we add more pedals to our boards having collaborated with so many different apes since the band begun has kept things fresh, everyone has different influences and it makes for hopefully good, interesting music.
What’s your gameplan for the rest of the year?
This year we get to release all the stuff we’ve been recording, we’re launching our debut EP, Indigovidual, at Mojo’s on April 4 with a single and video coming out April 2. We’ll also have two extra singles out and a second EP titled Lunar Solar Dreamer by the end of the year. We’ll be playing lots of shows to support these releases so come check us out!
