Exhibition brings the BOLD, BRILLIANT, BEGUILING outback to South Freo

Artitja Fine Art Gallery is set to showcase the works of emerging artist Isaac Lane in a new exhibition titled BOLD, BRILLIANT, BEGUILING. Opening at The Terrace Greenhouse in South Fremantle on Saturday, August 24, it will mark Lane’s first public showcase in the state and across Australia.

The exhibition will run until Sunday, September 15 and will also feature works by other established artists from remote community art centres, including Bugai Whyoulter, Katjarra Butler, and Janice Stanley. A selection of ceramics and sculptural objects will also be on display.

Gallery Director Anna Kanaris described the exhibition’s title as a reflection of the impact of Lane’s work. “As soon as we saw Isaac’s paintings, the exhibition named itself,” she said.

Born in Kalgoorlie and now residing in the remote community of Nyapiri, Lane began his artistic journey while working at the Tjungu Palya Art Centre. Initially employed as an arts worker, Lane was inspired to start painting himself. His work is influenced by his cultural heritage and his relation to renowned artist Simon Hogan, blending traditional themes with a bold, contemporary style.

Artitja Fine Art Gallery, which has been operating in South Fremantle for 20 years, focuses on promoting contemporary Indigenous art from remote communities across Australia.

Isaac Lane’s BOLD, BRILLIANT, BEGUILING exhibition is showing at The Terrace Greenhouse in South Fremantle from Saturday, August 24, until Sunday, September 15, 2024. For more information, head to artitja.com.au
