Peter Brandy & Elk Bell @ The River

March 16 @ 17:00 - 20:00

Peter Brandy returns to the South West from the Kimberley outback after a long hiatus to bring you his music from the heart.

Delve into the isolated places of the 1970’s, where the roads were rough and a family of three is walking through the bush in the rain, surviving off the land for three months.
Hear Peter’s tales of existing through flooding, being in the middle of nowhere, out of touch with the outside world and exposed to the elements, where bush people were caught between a river and a town where you could not walk to the next place to get help.

His story, like many of his elders and ancestors, were not told and Brandy brings these stories to the public with simple understanding and yet depth of insight into the traditional Aboriginal life and his early experience in and around the outback towns, where fringe-dwelling was a way of life for him and his family with no proper structure like the other towns people. His life in his youth was spent mainly around a campfire with damper and a billy boiling.

His happy memories were the times of the travelling country music shows, like Slim Dusty, the rodeo and the travelling carnival that inspired and lead him to his love of music.
He was taught guitar at the age of 13 and learned to play melodies that old timers like an old grader driver and stockman showed him that became part of his style.

His recent years have seen him remain in the bush, becoming isolated but never putting down the guitar. He’s returning with great enthusiasm to reconnect with close and new friends which he hopes will be a really blessed and happy time.

One such friend is Elk Bell who will be doing one set of this three set afternoon. She will be bringing her heartfelt alternative folk/pop to Wooditjup and then heading over east for shows in Victoria with Oceanique before knuckling down to record her third album.
