On the centenary of his birth, the WAAPA Jazz Department proudly presents a concert honouring the life and legacy of John Coltrane. A towering figure in 20thcentury music, his influence continues to not only shape the sound and spirit of jazz music, but serves as an inspiration to artists of all persuasions. This retrospective performance features WAAPA’s outstanding Jazz students in a curated exploration of Coltrane’s most celebrated works. From the lyrical beauty of Lush Life to the spiritual depth of A Love Supreme, the program traces Coltrane’s artistic evolution and enduring impact. Through interpretation and fearless improvisation, the next generation of global jazz artists pays tribute to Coltrane’s relentless pursuit of truth, innovation, and transcendence in music.
