The City Of Melville’s groundbreaking PHAZE project remains the only legal free-painting project for young West Aussies. Kicked off by a 2007 petition for a public free-painting space, the project essentially means that young Melvillians can transform the designated skateparks as they choose, mentored by professional urban artists. Now in its eighth year, PHAZE is taking on walls identified as graffiti hotspots as well as the usual skateparks. Dan Duggan, a local artist who also specialises in teaching spray art techniques, will be this year’s mentor. The first leg goes down on Sunday, October 26, at Leeming Skatepark, with materials, sunscreen and water provided by the City. Find more information at melvillecity.com.au/youth.
