A few years ago, X-Press Magazine Editor Bob Gordon found himself chatting with Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason. When asked if he ever envisioned himself, Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters reforming for a tour, as per their 2005 Live8 appearance, he wasn’t very confident,
“I don’t think it’s very likely,” Mason said. “But my own prognosis is that the one thing that could make it happen would not be money, it would be a Nelson Mandela or Bill Clinton type figure, and some sort of reason why us playing together would change the world or enhance some sort of peace process. Whether music is capable of doing that, who knows?”
While a Pink Floyd tour has come no closer to being a reality in the few years since that statement, the band’s fans – and consider on Facebook alone they have well over 29 million followers – were overjoyed this past weekend to learn that a new Pink Floyd album, The Endless River, is being readied for a release in October. Polly Samson, an artist who is the wife of guitarist, Gilmour, tweeted this little fact and set fans around the world into a tailspin.
This was backed up by backing vocalist, Durga McBroom-Hudson, who posted a photo from the studio on her Facebook page with the caption, ‘YES. THERE IS A NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM COMING OUT. AND I’M ON IT. And there was much rejoicing.’
It is believed that the album is based on 1994 recording sessions held around the time of Pink Floyd’s last studio LP, The Division Bell. As such, it features the keyboard work of Richard Wright, who sadly passed away in 2008, after a battle with cancer. There’s no word yet if Waters, who is on better terms with his former bandmates these days, has made any contribution to the album.

Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album, The Endless River, in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer.
