The rest of Australia is reeling from news that West Australians are already over- there will be no Big Day Out tour in 2015.
While we’ve had months to acclimatise to the cold hard fact that Australia’s most famous music festival would not be visiting Perth next year, the rest of the country has had less than 24 hours to get their heads around the idea that the coming summer’s festival schedule now has a big, BDO-shaped hole in it. The cancellation follows news that Australian music impresario AJ Maddah has sold his interest in the festival to American outfit, C3 Presents.
In a statement, C3 said, “C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world. While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015. We love working on BDO and are excited about the future.”
Maddah was more blunt, citing issues securing suitable headlining acts, saying “…there was fuck all out there.”
Maddah is due to appear on Triple J‘s Hack later today, where we’re sure more light will be shed on the situation.
