The Saints come marching back to Perth

Australian rock legends The Saints will reform this November in celebration of a vinyl box set release of their classic 1977 debut album (I’m) Stranded.

Featuring founding members; guitarist Ed Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay alongside honorary Saints; singer Mark Arm of Mudhoney, bassist Peter Oxley of Sunnyboys fame and former The Birthday Party/Bad Seeds guitarist Mick Harvey, The Saints ’73-’78 tour will recreate the sounds of The Saints’ hugely influential first three albums (I’m) Stranded (1977), Eternally Yours (1978) and Prehistoric Sounds (1978).

Western Australian fans will get a rare chance to catch The Saints live when the tour lands at Freo.Social on Wednesday, November 20.

“It’s been an exhausting yet thrilling process being involved in the creation of this box set,” said songwriter and guitarist Ed Kuepper. “It’s been 51 years in the making and has possibly turned out even better than I anticipated. It’s by far the most extensive appraisal of the band, both aurally and visually, that has ever been made available and hopefully reveals some things people may not have known about the band.”

The Saints were formed in Brisbane in 1973 by Ed Kuepper, singer-songwriter Chris Bailey and drummer Ivor Hay. With fast tempos, loud guitars and raucous vocals, they shaped the identity of punk rock in Australia. With their debut single (I’m) Stranded, released in September 1976, The Saints became the first punk band outside the US to release a record, ahead of the first UK punk releases from the Damned, the Sex Pistols and the Clash.

The Saints play Freo.Social on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Tickets are on sale Friday, June 14 from feelpresents.com
