Snatch Game brings the buzz to WA
Get ready for a show unlike any other, as The Official Snatch Game Tour makes its debut across Australia this year, hitting Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Saturday, July 6. Based on the game show from Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Snatch Game sees some of the world’s finest Queens take on the personas of famous characters for a night of laughs, music, and iconic impersonations—hosted by Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson. BRAYDEN EDWARDS caught up with Western Australia’s own contestant, Hannah Conda, to find out more about the show, taking on the role of Liza Minelli. and what we can look forward to on the night.
It’s exciting to have Snatch Game coming to Perth this year! What are you most excited about about bringing this show to WA?
For me now, being a two-time Snatch Game winner, I feel like coming home to Perth is a little bit of a victory lap for me. I’m so thrilled to bring along with me the absolute best of the best where Snatch Game is concerned and show off my beautiful home city!
And for those who aren’t familiar with it, what’s the story behind Snatch Game? And what kinds of things do contestants do to compete to win?
Snatch Game is a parody of Match Game/Blankety Blanks. We have to do our best celebrity impersonation, trying to match the answers to questions that our special guests give. It’s an absolutely hysterical time of improvisation and acting. It always ends in an absolute laugh riot!
Being born and raised in York, you’ll be flying the flag for WA in this contest! What’s something you tell fellow contestants who are coming here for the first time about WA and its audiences?
I tell them, ‘Sorry, everyone. They are here for me’ (laughs). No, I’m incredibly honoured for my sisters to experience how passionate Perth crowds are. You always show up and show out. One of the best audiences in the world!
You’ll be playing the dazzling Liza Minelli in the show. What’s the most fun and challenging part of taking on the role of such an iconic performer?
For me, I think the hardest part is trying to be audible as my Liza. She ends up slurring and mumbling, which is hysterical. I’m also making sure I’m constantly listening to what the other girls are saying to make sure I get in some good one-liners. I just love the chaos and seeing where each night and performance takes us. In the business of improv, you never know what will unfold, and that is my favourite part.
She joins an all-star cast of contestants, including Donald Trump, Margaret Thatcher and Jesus! It must be quite lively hitting the road with so many big characters…
It’s going to have to be seen to be believed. It is going to be one of the most fascinating and hysterical experiences.
And what’s something we’ll see at Snatch Game that we won’t see anywhere else?
The Snatch Game has never been performed live like this anywhere in the world, apart from on the sets of Drag Race. So we are bringing the show right to you! The audience is going to see exactly what it is like when we film this iconic challenge, and we are all excited to be doing it with an actual audience and not just having a laugh track over the top! It’s going to be a night not to be missed!
