Vanguard Media Group acquires X-Press Magazine

X-Press Magazine has a new owner. Vanguard Media Group purchased the iconic Western Australian media organisation in October 2023, beginning an exciting new chapter for both companies.

X-Press Magazine founder and outgoing Director, Joe Cipriani, retired from running the business in 2017 to pursue his interests in the real estate industry. Since then, Brayden Edwards has run X-Press under a licensing agreement, and he will continue to head the operation within Vanguard’s stable of 15 other publications.

“It is pleasing to know the iconic brand of X-Press will be in good hands with Vanguard and will live on as a major publisher of entertainment information in Perth’s media landscape,” said Joe Cipriani.

X-Press was born in 1985 and has been a leader in Perth’s entertainment media industry ever since. As Perth has grown and become a more diverse, cultural centre, X-Press, over 39 years and with the contribution of hundreds of local writers, has followed the change, documenting the city’s evolution and shining a light on the creatives and dreamers who changed our city forever.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the future of X-Press,” said Brayden Edwards. “The COVID years highlighted how important a locally-based, independent publisher meant to the people of Western Australia, and by joining forces with Vanguard, X-Press Magazine can continue to play this important role in the Perth community for years to come.”

Founded over 50 years ago, Vanguard Media Group have also moved with the times in Australia’s evolving media landscape, expanding from their origins in printing to also include distribution, design, branding and publishing.

This pairing has already produced exciting results, teaming up with Artrage in January 2024 to successfully print and distribute 10,000 copies of Fringe World’s ‘Fringer Lickin’ Good’ event guide brochure.

X-Press are already building on this success, preparing to roll out a monthly Gig Guide which will be printed and distributed across Perth in 2024.
