AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN MUSIC AWARDS Congrats to the WA nominees!


Congratulations to three WA women nominated in the Australian Women in Music Awards, set to be held in Brisbane on Wednesday, October 9. The AWMAs celebrate women’s involvement and skills across multiple fields within Australian music. Awards are given out for a slue of different categories such as Artistic excellence, emerging artist, song writer, music journalist, live production, music photographer and many more.

Jessica Vaini and Tashi Hall have been nominated for the Music Photography Award, making it two out of three nominees for WA in that category. Hall is also up for the Filmmaker Award and has a slue of talents up her sleeve, also being a singer/songwriter who wrote, recorded and independently released her debut EP Gratitude. Her filmmaking skills have led her to do short films along with music videos for other local artists like Dan Howl and Siobhan Cotchin.

WA can also boast a nomination for composer, music producer and percussionist Elise Reitze-Swensen. Nominated for the Studio Production Award, Elise is one half of acclaimed local electronic duo Feels, and has not only been a creative but also a teacher and supporter of women, trans and non-binary music makers to produce music for themselves, and help improve the representation of women in electronic music. With Feels Elise has played some pretty impressive line-ups including Listen Out, Falls Festival and Laneway Festival. 

The Australian Women in Music Awards is held in Brisbane on Wednesday, October 9.
