Like Rainy Day Women before them, indie-rock outfit The Money War are made up of Dylan Ollivierre and Carmen Pepper (also from Warning Birds) and signed to Perth-based littleBIGMANrecords.
Stars is their latest single. Feeling more whimsical and rustic than previous singles, once again it seems linked to the duo’s backstory, with the The Money War having formed during a road-trip across the US.
And that’s where it feels this track has been born, gestated halfway between a sandy, abandoned gas station and a carefree and an aspiring actor’s LA pipe dream. The track has a knack of making you move yourself and chase your own pipe-dreamy aspirations.
With a undulating, bouncy rhythm that rolls alongside fuzzy guitars, the vocals of Ollivierre and the guitar solo strike across the verse and chorus like sparks of lightning. With the lyrics detailing a struggle to attain fame, it gives off the vibe of a happy-go-lucky tragedy, with the listener willing to empathise and ultimately enjoy.
