THE IMMIGRANT

The Immigrant
The Immigrant

Touching on neorealism, noir, and the “ladies’ films” of Hollywood’s Golden Age, The Immigrant has been universally praised for being a beautiful film. It’s also pretty harrowing – we’re talking American immigration in the ’20s, heartbreak, disease, and Joaquin Phoenix being particularly slimy. Ewa Cybulski (Marion Cotillard) chase a better life to New York with her sister (Angela Sarafayan), who is immediately quarantined after discovered to be ill. Meanwhile, Ewa experiences the worst of Manhattan in the form of Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix) and his significantly more personable cousin, magician Orland (Jeremy Renner). Expect tears. The Immigrant screens exclusively at Cinema Paradiso from October 16. If you’d like to win a double pass, get in touch via the COMPS section in the app.
