PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS @ The Rosemount Hotel

porncrumpetsA band name like Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is sure to pique interest but a crumpet by any other name would taste as sweet. I’m not one for attending gigs stone-cold sober but on Saturday night at The Rosemount, that’s exactly what I did. The set was still thoroughly enjoyable and I even took home a few mosh-induced bruises. As soon as the Perth four-piece set foot on stage, the crowd were raring to go, the closer to the stage people were, the more mental they became. I couldn’t be too sure which direction the music would go next. In the time it takes to fall to the floor in an attempt at crowd surfing, the sound changed from dreamy shoegaze melodies to an off-kilter thrash jam.

Perth’s music scene appears to be reviving and re-creating the psyche-rock sound reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are an awesome example of that. By fusing their zany neo-psychedlica whilst giving a nod to rock and roll greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have created an original and exciting sound. The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets EP High Visceral Part 1 is a fuzzy adventure of an album with song titles that make me crave breakfast foods Marmalade March, Cornflake, Found God in a Tomato, anyone?
