What’s your show about?
It’s about life, the universe and everything! It’s a 30-minute journey in headphones for one, that will take you to the beach and then to the other side of the world. It makes you question the way you experience the beach. You will see your beach through new eyes!
Who’s gonna like it?
Everyone who likes cool shit! But seriously, the show is about who you are, where you’re from and where you’re at. So really anyone!
When and where is it on?
The Cottesloe Beach Hotel, where you will pick up your headphones and then begin your journey. It runs 12pm-9pm daily, from the January 23 – February 22.
COMPLETE HISTORY OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY and HORROR SHOW

What’s your show about?
Complete History is an hour of stand-up on the history of Western philosophy, covering everything from Ancient Greek maths cults to existentialist children’s movies.
Horror Show is a collection of spooky stories with funny twists (or funny stories with spooky twists), including Tutankhamen’s missing penis, a terrifying door-to-door salesman and my own close encounter with a creepy American coffee aficionado.
Who’s gonna like it?
I aim to do smart comedy, but it’s probably not as smart as you. Basically, if you don’t generally listen to FM radio hosts with names like ‘Shmizzo’ and ’the Woodchuck’, and you can read this without moving your lips, you’ll probably love it.
When and where is it on?
Horror Show is on for one night only (Friday, February 13) at Victoria Hall in Fremantle.
History of Western Philosophy is on at Noodle Palace (Central TAFE, Northbridge) from January 24 – Februaury 7, Victoria Hall in Fremantle on February 6, and Midland Junction Arts Centre on February 19.
What else are you looking forward to at this year’s Fringe?
Germany’s own Paco Erhard is coming back to Perth after selling out for three years straight. I’m also really looking forward to seeing Jon Bennett’s new show, Clara Cupcake’s Merchant Of Whimsy (which has the best promotional video ever), and I’ll also be doing the 24 hour impro show, Comedy Spectacular at The Empyrean and a thousand other guest appearances. Plus just generally soaking up the vibe, meeting Perthlings and tasting some of the bizarre ‘drive-through coffee’ that you (and only you) seem to have.
PUPPET FICTION
What’s your show about?
Puppet Fiction is the brainchild of puppet-maker Jon Coddington. Musing on how to create a marionette based on homage to his favourite film of all time, Jon hand crafted the entire case of the show, untangled their strings regularly and came up with ingenious props and sets.
It’s been 20 years since Pulp Fiction was released in 1994 and became an instant cult classic. Puppet Fiction was also an instant hit playing homage to the mighty film, with 40-cm tall replicates of the main characters. Obviously the concept of puppets dealing with, and dealing out such violence, humour, love, lust, drugs, signs from God, heavy and eccentric dialogue is enthralling, curious and automatically hilarious.

13 – THE MUSICAL

What’s your show about?
The show follows Evan who, just shy of becoming a teenager, suddenly has to cope with his parents’ divorce and a move from New York to Indiana. As he prepares for his impending bar mitzvah, Evan has to navigate the complicated social circles of a new school where he tries to fit in and become popular with a new group of kids.
Who’s gonna like it?
I love 13 and feel it features an age group usually forgotten by producers, who cater for children and young adults, but forget or ignore the age group in between. Although it features teenagers, it’s a great show that will be enjoyed by young and old alike.
When and where is it on?
13 plays at Hackett Hall, Floreat, from February 4 – 14. .
What else are you looking forward to at this year’s Fringe?
A Piece Of Cake, a comedic historical romp about Marie Antoinette, and The Broken Slipper, a black comedy about Cinderella.
RIVER
Who are we talking to?
Writer and performer Claire Lovering.
What’s your show about?
It’s a character monologue about a young woman called River. She’s an optimistic and unusual character who knows she’s alone but doesn’t realise she’s lonely. It was inspired by the isolation and anonymity I experienced when I first moved to Sydney four years ago. I call it a bitter sweet exploration of loneliness.
Who’s gonna like it?
Everyone! It’s a feel good story for young and old. The response from audiences has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s a funny, relatable and refreshingly sweet little show. One review described it as “An enchanting hour of story telling.” I think that’s a nice way of describing it. Also if you’ve ever used Google, eaten a crisp sandwich, or know about Megan Fox’s thumbs you’ll love River.
When and where is it on?
The Blue Room Theatre Studio, January 27- 31.
What else are you looking forward to at this year’s Fringe?
I can’t wait to see Gillian Cosgriff’s cabaret Whelmed. We were at WAAPA together and I’m convinced she’s going to be a superstar. And the hilarious Joel Creasey’s stand up show The Hurricane. Also looking forward to Venus In Fur, Fake It ‘Til You Make It and Those Who Fall In Love Like Anchors Dropped Upon The Ocean Floor.
FAKE IT ‘TIL YOU MAKE IT
Who are we talking to?
Why its the multi-award winning, dazzling wit and personality that is know as Bryony Kimmings of course!
What’s your show about?
It’s a new show from me about mental health, particularly depression, and men. Its the true story of my partner Tim’s hidden depression, exploring why mental illness is still such a taboo, what it takes to be a bloke, and it follows the journey of our attempt to make a show about it. Its funny, its sad, it’s weird and its brutally honest.
Who’s gonna like it?
I think its pretty much a show for anyone, I think it will naturally appeal to people who have suffered with poor mental health or have had someone they love suffer. The statistics show that is pretty much everyone on the planet. I think the brave will come. Those who want to see something different and be on the crest of an awesome new who wave.
When and where is it on?
The show actually world premieres in Perth. It’s commissioned in the UK by Southbank Centre but it opens at Fringe World for a week or so before we whizz to Adelaide and Melbs. Firstly we do January 30 – 31 at Mandurah Arts Centre in Fishtrap, then 3 – 7 at PICA.
What else are you looking forward to at this year’s Fringe?
I am looking forward to it not be -5 degrees outside. Sipping cocktails, making new friends and seeing The Worst Of Scottee. I am performing another show too on our whistlestop visit. My first ever show I made, Sex Idiot, is on a few nights late at night so I am pretty much going to be an owl for the time I am there. Or asleep in the sun with strangers putting sun cream on me and tutting.
