PERTH FESTIVAL Lotterywest Films at UWA Somerville

As November rolls around it comes time to head out to the UWA’s Somerville Auditorium for some of the most unique cinema under the stars with Lotterywest Films. From November 25 onward, expect an array of award-wining international films to entertain and amaze. From docos to zom-coms, romance to horror, this season has some phenomenal films to offer, starting with director Pedro Almodovar’s latest film.

Pain and Glory
is a semi-autobiographical drama from the legendary Spanish director starring Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, and won Banderas Best Actor at this years Cannes Film Festival.

Following that will be the star-studded sardonic zombie comedy of The Dead Don’t Die (pictured top) from auteur of cool Jim Jarmusch. It’s a pretty good year when you see Bill Murray go up against zombies… twice (shame on you if you didn’t stay for the after-credits on Zombieland: Double Tap). Besides Murray, The Dead Don’t Die includes Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Chloë Sevigny, Iggy Pop, and a host of other notable stars.

Other acclaimed films on the way include the sumptuous French 18th century period drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019 Cannes Best Screenplay), Cinefest Oz Film Prize winner H is for Happiness (filmed around Albany), The Witch director Robert Eggers’s latest gothic thriller The Lighthouse, and the must-see Australian documentary In My Blood it Runs.
