A pianist of formidable touch and deep musicality\, Jeff brings decades of experience across jazz and blues\, alongside a distinctive voice shaped by a lifetime immersed in music. \nBlind since birth\, Jeff follows in the lineage of great blind pianists such as Ray Charles and George Shearing. His career has spanned festivals across Australia and internationally\, numerous recordings\, and a long-standing role as lecturer and specialist blues piano educator at the Queensland Conservatorium. Whether leading his own ensembles or performing solo\, his playing is marked by rhythmic authority\, expressive nuance and a profound connection to the blues tradition. \nThis collaboration brings Jeff’s rich musical perspective together with the next generation of big band musicians in a night of dynamic ensemble work and expressive improvisation. \nPrior to the performance\, Jeff Usher will present a short artist talk Upstairs at The Ellington from 6:10–6:30pm.
