SUMMARY:Cohen Noir @ The Astor Theatre\, Perth
DESCRIPTION:COHEN NOIR \nRediscover Leonard Cohen. \nSome songs become part of who we are. \nThey accompany us through different seasons of life\, speaking to us differently as we ourselves change. Leonard Cohen’s songs are among those rare companions\, rich with beauty\, longing\, tenderness and extraordinary insight into what it means to be human. \nCohen Noir is an invitation into that remarkable world. \nAn exceptional ensemble of musicians and guest artists explores Cohen’s songs\, poetry and prose with imagination\, sensitivity and extraordinary musicianship. Drawing on jazz\, tango\, Latin\, folk\, klezmer and cinematic orchestration\, the music reveals new colours and perspectives while remaining faithful to the emotional heart of the songs. \nThroughout the performance\, Cohen’s own recorded voice\, poetry and humour weave gently through the music\, drawing audiences into the world behind the songs and revealing the wisdom\, humanity and quiet grace that resonate so deeply. \nOver the past 17 years\, triple ARIA Award-winning Monsieur Camembert’s Cohen Noir has evolved into one of Australia’s most acclaimed live music experiences\, earning standing ovations and sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House\, State Theatre\, City Recital Hall and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Audiences return not simply to hear these extraordinary songs again\, but to discover something new within them. \nFor this exclusive Perth performance\, Monsieur Camembert is joined by an exceptional cast featuring iOTA\, Diana Rouvas\, Lyn Bowtell\, Susie Bishop\, Daniel Weltlinger and the remarkable Bukhu\, whose haunting Mongolian throat singing and horse-hair fiddle add another unforgettable voice to this rich musical landscape. \nWhether you’ve treasured Leonard Cohen’s music for decades or are discovering it for the very first time\, Cohen Noir offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s greatest songwriters afresh\, and to leave with an even deeper appreciation of the remarkable artist behind the songs. \n“If you like Leonard Cohen\, you ought to hear Monsieur Camembert’s Cohen Noir. You more especially ought to hear it if you dislike Leonard Cohen: here’s your cure for received notions about Cohen as a byword for gloom! Spirited\, musically assured\, eclectic and downright fun. They never imitate Cohen\, but do right by him\, with glee and sensitivity.” (Doug Spencer\, ABC Radio National) \n“Monsieur Camembert does justice to the emotional\, lyrical and melodic intent of the songs while adding a new dimension.” (Tony Hillier\, The Weekend Australian) \n“A phenomenal celebration of Cohen’s life\, music and lyrics.” (Canberra Critics Circle) \n“A musical experience that was nothing short of magical… a deep celebration of Leonard Cohen’s poetic soul… rich\, raw and beautifully orchestrated… simply extraordinary.” (Hush Hush Biz) \n“The texture and richness of this ensemble gives all the depth required for Cohen’s art… an epic\, almost religious experience that raised the roof and brought tears to many eyes.” (Glam Adelaide) \n“They never imitate Cohen\, but do right by him\, with glee and sensitivity.” (Doug Spencer\, ABC Radio National) \n“An utterly extraordinary and uplifting night of music!” (Glenn A. Baker) \n“A splendidly fashioned immersion in the life\, works\, and wry wisdom of a remarkable poet musician.” (InReview) \n“Cohen was intensely spiritual\, and that spirit lives on in the music of Monsieur Camembert. They have captured and expressed his quest for the meaning of existence with love and exquisite musical arrangements.” ★★★★★ (The Clothesline) \n“Monsieur Camembert’s Leonard Cohen Show is the font that keeps on giving. They dance through verse after verse\, putting flesh on the despairing bones of his songs…like slanted light catching dust motes and turning them into solid beams…illuminating afresh these lyrics that lift scabs on the confronting\, mortifying\, exultant business of being human. A brilliant celebration of a singular artist.” (John Shand\, Sydney Morning Herald)

SUMMARY:Blue Shaddy
DESCRIPTION:Duke of George presentsBlue Shaddy \nAs quoted by Salty from Salty Dog Blues n Roots Podcast/Radio\, www.salty.com.au‘In the West Australian wheatbelt\, Shaddy is known as a feral cat\, ‘Wild and Furious’\, just like a Shaddy gig’. \nWest Australian four piece Blue Shaddy are a family band that seem to fit more into one song than most do in a two hour set. To quote ‘The Hollies’ ‘the road is long with many a winding turn’. ‘He aint heavy’\, ‘he’s my brother’ (Belly)\, then there’s the wife (Sandy)\, and now after some 17 years away from the band drummer Dean Wuksta and original drummer is back\, and there you have 27 years of ‘Blue Shaddy’ fresh and ready to go. \nJim McClelland\, guitarist singer and main songwriter blends elements of blues\, country and rock in his writing creating a whirlpool of foot stomping infectious energy. Taking you from a Smokey\, whiskey soaked blues lounge\, to funky town\, then winding up drinking moonshine in the all in haystack hoe down. \n‘Blue Shaddy’ try to involve the audience and bring them right on stage with them for the ride. Jim will always ask\, ‘How ya going’ and he actually does mean that. and belly will dance like a mad man on hot bed of coals harmonica blasting\, Sandy and Dean just sit firmly in the engine room holding it tight\, allowing brothers Jim and Belly the freedom to explore the raw exuberance of each other’s talents as only kin can do. \n‘Blue Shaddy’ have independently released four albums and have been showcased in the U.S through ‘ Tin Records’ with ‘Howling Dog’ being included in the New music ‘Tin Records’ compilation 2007. Then in 2003 selling ‘Howling Dog’ to MTV’s TV series ‘Wildboyz’ (season 3). The follow up to ‘Jackass’ starring Steve O. \nDoors 6 pm | Band 7.30 pm
