The power of people and music: Iconic Ukrainian pianist Antuanetta Mishchenko put her stamp on the world’s history books the moment she stood on top of a bus to play the piano amidst a strife-torn Ukraine.
During the tragic winter of 2014 at the height of protests in Kyiv (Ukrainian Revolution), a young music student by the name of Antuanetta Mishchenko stood amongst the chaos with crowds of protesters on one side, special police forces on the other, and a yellow and blue piano balancing on top of a bus being used as a barricade in front of her. With her focus on the piano, she climbed onto the bus and became an icon.
For one night only, experience Antuanetta Mishchenko performing with our own Perth Symphony Orchestra, with the support of 18-year-old Ustym Sokalskyi on cello.
Highlights of this evening will include a rendition of the Ukrainian National Anthem, features from composers Sylwestrow, Lyssenko and Lysohub and a performance of Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto ‘The Emperor.’
Antuanetta Mishchenko is not just a concert performer but also a volunteer and a social activist. For this special evening, Mishchenko has selected ‘Health of the Ukrainian People’ to benefit from this concert. Find more information and donate here: https://houp.org/
