Will Stoker & The Embers have returned to launch a new single, Youngbloods, at The Bird this Saturday, March 28, with Aborted Tortoise and The Darling Rangers. Stoker kind of tells BOB GORDON all about it.

Will Stoker & The Embers have been somewhat elusive in recent times. What’s been going on?
Well that could take more time that anyone has patience for, so briefly it’s a story about love, deception, greed, lust and…unbridled enthusiasm. I was a simple country boy. You might say a cockeyed optimist, who got himself mixed up in the high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue.

Thanks Billy Mumphrey. Tell us a bit about the single, Young Bloods?
‘Can you hear the call of the Young Bloods? as their minds are going underground. They came from brilliancy but they’re all screaming “What’s it all about?’ The child is born perfect but is gradually corrupted by so called ‘intelligence’. The child searches for answers and drives flags into rocks once he accepts its own mortality through love, deception, greed, lust and… unbridled enthusiasm.

Does it evoke where you are right now musically, or is it simply an element of that?
The ‘pointing a damning finger and letting the holy spirit do the rest’ sound is a common thread through Will Stoker & The Embers but there will be new acoustic territory to invade on future tunes. We’ll have out own Planet Caravan here and there.

Are there plans for an EP or album release?
If that is still the name given to our listening habits of streaming single tracks online is called… then yes to both questions.

How would you like 2015 to pan out for Will Stoker & The Embers?
Scrambled please.

Listen to Youngbloods now on Bandcamp.
