VIOLENT SOHO Announce “indefinite hiatus”


After a career spanning almost 20 years, Brisbane’s godfathers of Australian “bro’rock” have today announced that they are taking an “indefinite hiatus.” As a goodbye gift the band have also shared their new single Kamikaze and have announced their final live Until Next Time show at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Saturday, September 10.

“After nearly 20 years in Violent Soho we’ve experienced so much as a band – it’s been incredible and life-defining,” the band posted on their Facebook page. “We feel so grateful to have experienced the journey and to all the people that believed in our music and showed us so much support.”

“However, as individuals we’ve found ourselves in different places over the last few years and so we’ve decided it’s time to take a break and lay low for a bit. This isn’t the end of the band, but we are looking forward to giving ourselves some space, focusing on our families, and giving back to the community which fostered and carried us.”

Violent Soho have been active since 2004 and toured extensively before recording and releasing their breakout 2013 album Hungry Ghost which gained them international fans and earned ARIA Gold-accreditation. They followed up the success of Hungry Ghost with the Gold-accredited and ARIA #1 album WACO.

The band has won two ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Group and won the AIR Award for Best Hard Rock, Metal or Punk Album, their Double ARIA Platinum single Covered In Chrome was voted #14 in the triple j Hottest 100 of 2013. Then in 2020 they received an ARIA #1 debut for Everything Is A-OK, which scored them three ARIA nominations for Best Rock Album, Engineer of the Year, and Best Cover Art.

Violent Soho will play the amphitheatre stage at Splendour In The Grass 2022 next weekend before playing their final Fortitude Music Hall show in September which will be that last chance to catch he band live for some time, though the band have declared that it is not the end – it is just “until next time.”
