From the fevered minds at Blue Forest Media comes Top Knot Detective, the greatest Japanese action series you’ve never heard of. Created by and starring Takashi Tawagoto, TKD charted the adventures of a detective in classical Japan who sought to avenge the murder of his master, fighting ninja, monsters, aliens, and giant robots along the way. However, all that pales in comparison to the behind the scenes story, a torrid tale of naked ambition, blind ego, deception, fraud and ultimately murder, all uncovered by Perth documentarians Aaron McCann and Dominic Pearce.
In truth, Top Knot Detective is a new comedy series that combines a love of fringe pop culture, an appreciation for metatextuality and an anything goes approach to humour. Produced for Comedy Runway, an initiative by SBS and Screenwest designed to discover fresh Australian comedy talent, the pilot episode goes live on SBS On Demand on Wednesday, March 25.
