First screened in Perth in October last year at Luna Cinemas, The Sunnyboy has since featured in community outreach events all over Australia.
Documenting Sunnyboys singer/guitarist Jeremy Oxley’s 30-year battle with schizophrenia and his re-emergence in more recent times, the film is a joint winner of The Mental Health Services Broadcast Media Award 2014. Director Kaye Harrison will receive the award from Prof. Fiona Stanley at the TheMHS Conference on Wednesday, August 27. The broadcast media award is for the best program, program segment or series of programs/segments relating to mental health or mental illness.
This Thursday, August 28, The Sunnyboy will screen at the Perth Convention Centre as part of the TheMHS Conference with Kaye Harrison and Sunnyboy Peter Oxley along to participate in a Q&A following the screening, hosted by X-Press Magazine Editor, Bob Gordon.
