THE IRISHMAN De Niro, Pacino, Pesci, Scorcese

Following the success of David Michod’s The King, Netflix are now releasing arguably the year’s most highly anticipated film for theatrical release. The Irishman will screen exclusively for a limited season at The Backlot Perth from November 8.

The crime drama from director Martin Scorcese has critics abuzz and it is expected to lead the upcoming Awards season. The star studded cast features Hollywood heavyweights Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. And the timing couldn’t be better with Scorcese’s name coming up so much recently as an influence on the  recent Joker adaptation, which has proven wildly successful.

Arguably Scorcese’s most anticipated film since GoodFellas and the first time he has worked with De Niro and Pesci since, The Irishman is an epic mob procedural about violence, betrayal, dishonesty and emotional bankruptcy.

The film is adapted from Charles Brandt’s 2003 true crime potboiler about a Teamster official and lower-tier mafia figure, Frank Sheeran, who claims he killed Jimmy Hoffa, the onetime Teamster president who went missing in 1975 and was finally declared dead in 1982, though his body was never found.

The Irishman screens at the Backlot Perth from November 8. Tickets available at eventbrite.com.
