PERTH FESTIVAL WRITERS WEEK Let’s get Lit…erary!

Writers Week
has finally arrived for all you literary nuts out there and this year the theme, Our Imagined Selves, explores how the individual stories of people can also be a part of every story. Showcasing amazing memoirs, family dramas, historical sagas and much more, Writers Week is happening now until February 24.

Come for an evening of magical realism with Booker Prize-winning author and poet Ben Okri from Nigeria, and listen as he talks about art, life and politics and his new book The Freedom Artist.

Experience a performance lecture with a difference, when culture critic, DJ and author, Madison Moore discusses Dance Mania: A Manifesto for Queer Nightlife. Then let your hair down after in the late-night Bar Underground.

The Big Crazy Book Club led by Benjamin Law, with The Chaser’s Andrew Hansen, indie pop star Sally Seltmann and novelist Monica McInerney is an unpredictable book-club style session where the authors will discuss their literary likes and dislikes.

Sisonke Msimang, in a special event All Of Me is Here, will be discussing how life shapes stories and will be joined by Australian novelist and journalist Trent Dalton, blogger and physical-appearance activist Carly Findlay, and Congolese-Australian playwright Future D Fidel.

Jazz High Tea is a special Gatz-inspired event that invites you to join the show’s director John Collins and guests for high tea, jazz and a chat about F. Scott Fitzgerald’s amazing work.

There is live music from West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, a sundowner in Fremantle on Saturday and a Family Day at the Writers Week Hub on UWA Campus on Sunday.

Perth Writers Week runs form 18-24 February. You can find out all about the fabulous event via the Perth Festival website.
