PERTH FESTIVAL Lotterywest Films season one

Faces Places

From November 27 the UWA Somerville and Joondalup Pines become the venues for our celluloid dreams. Under the stars Perth Festival will begin its 20 week run of cinema with the Lotterywest Films: Season One. Film Program Manager Tom Vincent promises a varied program, but says it “may be the year of tragic-comic films for tragic-comic times”.

The first half of our 2017-2018 program includes exciting award winning films that transport you across the globe to rural France, America, Scandinavia, New Zealand and the English moors.

The festival will launch with Faces Places (pictured), an odd couple documentary seeing director Agnes Varda and photographer JR travelling around rural France, getting to know the locals and erecting photographic murals. Across the following weeks we will see the tennis drama Borg vs McEnroe (with Shia LaBeouf as McEnroe), Kristin Scott Thomas and Timothy Spall in The Party, the Palme d’Or winning The Square, the droll Scandi comedy The Other Side of Hope, the romantic horror Thelma, and a host of others.
