The 2019 program for Perth Festival has dropped, and it’s jam-packed with a little bit of everything. From February 8 to March 3, the city will be alive with a plethora of events ranging from theatre, music, circus and dance to film, literature and visual arts.
In regards to art, the festival will open with a repeat of Boorna Waanginy: The Trees Speak (pictured) which went down a treat back in 2017 when it graced the beauty of Kings Park. The opening weekend itself will be met with shows such as Vietnamese circus Lang Toi and the Chinese-Australian “music and dance experience” One Infinity.
The Sunset Heritage Precinct in Dalkeith will be home to an array of shows, including Sunset, opera Speechless, the family-friendly A Ghost in My Suitcase and Le Nor: The Rain, described as a “faux-foreign romantic film” acted out on stage.
Artist-in-residence Ursula Martinez will take up a spot in Studio Underground, performing two shows: the “confessional” Free Admission and A Family Outing: 20 Years On which stars her mother.
Ballet at the Quarry, performed by West Australian Ballet, co3 and choreographer Garry Stewart, will make its return to “reimagine classical ballet tales of transformation”.
Gallery Central will be home to Kate McIntosh‘s Workable, a participatory installation intended for one person to experience at a time.
Writers Week: Our Imagined Selves, running from February 18 to 24, plans to host an array of talented wordsmiths over at UWA, from Benjamin Law to Monica McInerney.
