Green Eyes is the latest single from local rock outfit Pat Chow. If you were a fan of their grungy antics found in their 2015 LP Are You Okay? then you may be a little disheartened. The emotional tension is still embedded in the lyrics, but it’s wrapped and window-dressed in a brighter, cheeky tone.
It’s a great track, nonetheless. The guitars are crisp, the backing vocals are nice and its catchy and memorable – it ticks all the boxes. But it doesn’t wrench out the heart Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom-style, and frankly that’s what you want from a Pat Chow track – weird, emotional, voodoo shit. If you’re after a little angst in the vocals, Green Eyes doesn’t really deliver in that department.
Some fans will welcome the change in sound, while others might look to consciously uncouple, Gwyneth Paltrow style, but Pat Chow’s ability to pen a great indie pop song is never in doubt.
