MELVINS & REDD KROSS Pulling double duty

It’s been a year for great double bills and here’s another one to add to the list. Washington grunge pioneers Melvins return touring their first ever double album A Walk With Love and Death and are joined on Friday, November 3 at Capitol by legendary LA rockers Redd Kross.

Formed in Montessano, Washington in 1983, the momentous Melvins return to our shores off the back of the just released A Walk With Love and Death upping the ante with a double LP: Death is a proper Melvins’ album, while Love is the score to director Jesse Nieminen’s self-produced short film, also titled A Walk With Love and Death.

“This was a huge undertaking,” explains frontman Buzz Osborne of the discs. “All three things: the album, the soundtrack and the film are benchmarks for us.”

Redd Kross

Joining the tour as special guests are seminal Los Angeles popsters Redd Kross. Not many can lay claim to influencing the likes of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, or Pavement, but brothers Steve and Jeff McDonald did just that; forming Redd Kross while still teenagers. They even supported an early incarnation of Black Flag at a middle school graduation party.

“(Redd Kross) are definitely one of the most important bands in America.” – Thurston Moore

Following a hiatus from 1997 until 2006, in total it was a 15-year wait for their most recent album Researching The Blues (2012). The band’s gift for harmonies, punk attitudes, lush production and raucous riffs helped spawn grunge and define the times.

And with Dale Crover and Steve McDonald pulling double duty playing in both Melvins and Redd Kross, what more could you want?

A Walk With Love and Death is out now. Melvins and Redd Kross play Capitol, Perth on Friday, November 3.
