Kulcha Closes Its Doors

KulchaKulcha, long a hub of diversity in the Perth creative scene, is closing its doors, with the multicultural institution having announced that it will be shutting down operations due to a lack of funding. President John Strachan specifically named a lack of support from the State government as a key reason.

“Being good at what you do is not sufficient to guarantee a future in the Arts in WA,” Strachan said in a prepared statement. “The rising costs of running an arts business and the lack of support for our multicultural artists from the State Government, means that after 30 years Kulcha is no longer able to survive.”

For the punter, this means that all upcoming Kulcha events have been cancelled, effective immediately. This Saturday’s Fringe World performance, Duo Caliente, has been moved to Fremantle Arts Centre.
