KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD – Badlands

Watching King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard play in a dimly lit cavernous bar is like setting your brain to acid trip mode. The seven piece create mind-warping noise that is surely capable of piercing through multi dimensions. The newly overhauled Badlands bar is the perfect setting to make jam, an atmosphere akin to the Titty Twister out of From Dusk til Dawn..

From the get go King Giz and the Liz Wiz as I like to call them (though not out loud) rocked out with experimental gusto. The often chaotic and distorted blend of guitars, drums, percussion, synths and vocals could be described as psychedelic beach rock although their sound fuses elements of punk and jazz. The Friday night show was unfailingly exciting and surprising, the Melbourne boys even made the flute seem ridiculously cool!

Having only recently discovered King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on early morning RAGE, People- vultures, Cellophane and Milk and Honey were the most recognisable songs for me, their bizarre dream-esque pop invigorating my psyche.

Check out King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizards latest LP Nonagon infinity for a fuzzy natural high.
