West Australian alt-folk pop four-piece, Joan and the Giants, release their latest single Wolves on Monday, August 26. The band sprang onto the local music scene in early 2019 and have shown that they are not shy of hard work, having since toured the state multiple times and earning the support slot for Odette on the WA leg of her most recent tour

Wolves opens with ethereal guitar riffs that lead into a flurry of drums, before petering back, and the entrance of vocalist Grace Newton’s powerful, velvety tones. The track’s diaphanous guitar and heavy drums build into peaks, before then relenting and resolving, helping to enunciate the emotional content of the lyrics. The song’s lyrics focus on self-development and the trials and tribulations of life, best captured in the line “I’m afraid to find myself cause I’ll have to let you go.”

In comparison to previous releases, such as Hold Me and Cruel, Wolves packs an increasingly powerful emotional punch, and demonstrates the impressive progress that the band has been able to make within its relatively short lifetime.
