JESSICA EVA Women In Red Exhibition

Local Leederville artist Jessica Eva presents Women in Red, a photographic series which chronicles the women of the Red Brigade Lucknow India. This exhibition and book launch showcases a photographic compilation providing a poignant view of the Red Brigade Lucknow, and runs Friday, August 2 until Friday, August 30, with a book reading and discussion panel to be held on Sunday, August 11 at the PS Art Space, Fremantle.

The Red Brigade Lucknow are a grassroots organisation who campaign for women’s rights and combat violence against women on the streets along with combating domestic violence within the home. After seeing an ABC news report about the organisation in 2014, Jessica Eva was compelled to travel to meet the women face to face, to collect their stories first hand and document their portraits.

With close ties to her own heritage (Jessica’s mother is Indian), the tale of these women and their heroic fight to free women from violence connected deeply with the young Australian artist. The exhibition uses large-scale photographs to monumentalise the immense strength and humanity of the women, using imagery that is both powerful and vibrant.

Jessica Eva’s Women In Red exhibition opens at PS Art Space Fremantle on August 2, running until August 30.
