Soggybones

Quickly emerging as the best punk rocking venue in town Soggybones had the privilege of hosting WA’s first instalment of HOT FREAKS. This industrial warehouse space tucked away  just off Newcastle street in West Perth provides the perfect habitant for this boutique punk rock fest. Featuring 10 hours solid of freakishly hot bands from around this sun lit land went off with out a hitch and all those that didn’t attend truly missed out.  The weather may have been cold and mean outside but the crowd was warm with bands Leeches, Oslow, The Sinking Teeth, Pat Chow and Grenadiers blasting hot rocking pleasure into  their eardrums.

The sound was massive at the ever evolving multi use venue, with a new 400 capacity set up, giant ear bleeding  speaker stacks and the stage doubling in size since the last show, Hot Freaks was a force to be reckoned with.

The bitter weather may have been surging outside but those at the gig had no idea, with each band taking the stage with full attention of all those present. With 12 bands over 10 hrs, a tasty food van and a bar with genuine 1970’s prices there was a smile ear to ear on every punter nodding their head, tapping their foot or moshing out front.

The line- up included many local WA faves and up n’ comers. Debut WA appearances by HannahBand, Oslow and The Sinking Teeth and the return of Horror my Friend and seasoned campaigners Grenadiers there was a tasty mix for everybody. It was near impossible to single out any one performance with all bands giving it their all,  leaving nothing but blood, sweat and spilt beers onstage.

With the mixed crowd of music lovers all getting along, no dramas, beef or troublemakers tarring the event it proved once again that music goers are a friendly behaved bunch respecting the venue, the neighbourhood and those around them. A nod has to also be given to the local City of Vincent for their support in events as acknowledging all levels of your community is paramount to a happy town. They popped down at one point with liquor licensing to check on operations and with everything proving to be tip top I would like to think they went up front for a quick mosh before heading on their way.

In a state that often misses out on tours and festivals it’s exciting to see an absolute cracker coming our way. Hot Freaks 2.0 come at me, I can’t wait to see what you have for us in 2017.
