Group Therapy Records is an artist run record label and music collective based in Perth, Western Australia. They will be launching at The Bird on May 26 with live performances from Em Burrows & band, Shy Panther, Greivous Bodily Calm and Segue Safari DJs.
The label was born with the idea that creating an independent record label is all about “finding your community”:
“Being a musician, songwriter or creative person can be very solitary. You make the sounds, you put them into the world (often online) and you wait. You might get some radio play and you might play some shows, and then it’s back to the drawing board. What if artists could join forces and make the process altogether more shared, supported, and fun?”
The label has gathered like minded musicians and creative types who value collaboration and working together, focusing an importance on diversity. The label has initiated a school program called “Play Like A Girl” that encourages young women to take an active approach to performing and networking in the music industry.
