COTTESLOE FILM FEST Jirga

The Cottesloe Film Festival was launched in 2017 with the aim of bringing world-class cinema to the Town of Cottesloe. Films are screening on Friday and Saturday nights from February 1-16 from 5pm on the main lawn at the Cottesloe Civic Centre with live music and licensed bars.

Jirga:

An Australian film unlike any you have ever seen before, JIRGA follows one man’s quest for redemption set in one of the most dangerous places on earth: the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A modern morality tale about a former Australian soldier, Mike, who returns to Afghanistan to find the family of a civilian he accidentally killed during the war. Seeking forgiveness, he puts his life in the hands of the village justice system – the Jirga.

Directed by Benjamin Gilmour,, who along with actor Sam Smith literally trekked through the dangerous territories of the film setting the month in order to make the film, JIRGA is a courageous and empathetic depiction of the human costs of the War on Terror.
