DIRTY HOWLER Showing a little mongrel

Fremantle’s own Dirty Howler will catapult their self-proclaimed ‘swamp-dog-safari-punk’ this weekend, launching their debut EP Half Mongrel and Houdini film clip at Little Creatures, Fremantle this Friday, October 27. Support comes from Yalla Yalla, Bluntfield, DJs Benny Lek and Morty by Nature, and rock-rapper Mikey Mike & the Other Fulla.

The EP introduces the band’s eclectic brand of punk, a fusion of heavy metal distorted guitars and dirty funk bass brewed into a headbanging showdown through the savage lyrics busted-out by front woman Nadina Slade’s grunge-power vocals.

The band credits local acts Frozen Ocean, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Shit Narnia as influences. Dirty is a running theme when Slade describes the group’s sound: “It’s dirty like funk and swampy blues, dirty minded like old-school hip-hop, smelly like club tech-house. It’s a concoction of sounds that brings together the vibes of desert rock, dubby opium dens, circus freak pirates and Gaza Strip club owners.”

Slade is backed in the group by Joe Byrne (guitar), Jason Donoghue (bass) and Josh Yates (drums) who all originate from multiple local WA acts, such as Sexy Robot and Maurice Flavel’s Intensive Care.

Dirty Howler will be selling their DIY art, posters and merchandise at the launch, including a limited edition, custom designed USB and lanyard.

Catch Dirty Howler launching Half Mongrel and Houdini this Friday, October 27 at the Red Room of Little Creatures Brewery, Fremantle from 7 pm. Support from Yalla Yalla, Bluntfield, DJs Benny Lek and Morty by Nature and rock-rapper Mikey Mike & the Other Fulla.
