5 EVENTS YOU CAN’T MISS THIS WEEK Perth Festival, Arctic Monkeys and more…

The glorious Perth Festival is raging on this week, with music and the arts alike putting on shows that are bound to impress. Aside from that, one of the biggest names in UK indie rock are making their way over, and there’ll also be some talent closer to home on display. Check out our Event Guide for more, and send us an email at guide@xpressmag.com.au with any suggestions you may have.

1. Perth Festival – Music

This week at the stunning Chevron Gardens we’ll be seeing Julia Jacklin, Deafheaven ft. Zeal & Ardor, Rhye and the Melbourne Ska Orchestra to name a few highlights. Check out the website for a full rundown of the rest of the festival.

2. Perth Festival – Arts

On the arts side of things, make sure to check out the last couple of days of Le Nor (a semi-apocalyptic romance, presented in the style of a foreign film) we scored 9.5/10, at PICA. For the dance fans out there, WA Ballet choreographer Garry Stewart and Perth dancers Co3 are performing their improv show In-Synch: Ballet at the Quarry that explores “themes of death and transformation set against brooding backdrops of nature” at Quarry Amphitheatre until March 2. For something a little more involved, there’s a bounty of Perth Writers Week talks going on, presented by the likes of Peter Fitzsimons, Jane Caro and Fiona Wright. Click through to see the full list of talks, dates and locations.

3. Arctic Monkeys

It’d be hard to find anyone who hasn’t at least heard of AM in this day and age, hence their massive show at RAC Arena this Saturday, February 23. Fans young and old alike will be treated to their first performance here since 2014.

4. South Perth Sounds – Hoodoo Gurus & Hot Sand

You’d never expect a band as top notch and renowned as the Gurus to be doing any sort of free show, yet here they are, giving the fans exactly what they want. Also happening this Saturday, they’ll be playing at Sir James Mitchell Park with Freo support Hot Sand.

5. Local launches

A few of this week’s standout launches will be from The City Views (EP launch at the Bassendean Hotel), Flossy (pictured above) ( single launch at The Bird), Mitchell Martin (band launch at The Sewing Room) and Fourth State (single launch at The Bird). Enjoy your weekend in the best way possible; by supporting the best of our local scene.
